Mauritius – Paradise on Earth

The small volcanic island of Mauritius meets most, if not all expectations of what a holiday in paradise ought to be. The island is loaded with perfect beaches, awe-inspiring geographic variations, historical sights, cultural diversity and limitless holiday activities that you can choose from. It’s most striking feature, however, are the relaxed charm of it’s warm and welcoming people.

Start your Mauritian adventure by exploring Port Louise, Africa’s richest city. Port Louise greets a traveler arriving from the airport in a stunning manner, as you descend from the Central Plateau into the busy city center with the Indian Ocean spread out to infinity. The city itself is tucked beneath the impressive peaks of Le Pouce and Pieter. Modern, cosmopolitan yet laid back, the city houses some beautiful French colonial style architecture and the botanical gardens are well worth going to.

Visit the L’Adventure de Sucre, an interesting museum in an old sugar mill that traces the history of sugarcane on the Island. Head over to Grand bay in the north, the heart and soul of Mauritius. From its beautiful activity filled beaches to its rocking nightlife scene and cafes, it’s the place to be in Mauritius. The beaches at Grand bay, Mon Choise and Pereybere are as perfect as they can get. Head over to the tip of Mauritius, Gris Gris to see huge waves crash against the cliffs reshaping them all the time. To spot dolphins head to Le Morne and for the prettiest sunset on the Island. The beach at Flic n Flac will leave you gasping for more. The jewel in the crown has to be Ile aux cerf. A smaller island just off the main island, the word “paradise” must have been coined with this in mind. This coral island is a true gem in the Mauritian landscape. The multi-coloured earth in Chamarel caused by volcanic erosion make for an unique sight like the Chamarel falls.

The Black River Gorge National park which features some interesting hiking trails and Trou aux Cerf, an extinct volcano now in the heart of the town of Curepipe are also well worth a visit.
